Review from P G (Brother-in-law of Resident) - 20 February 2024
Very well staffed, we were very apprehensive with my sister-in-law being admitted from her previous care setting. Saw a difference within a couple of days with us being there, as we live down south and we felt at ease knowing that she is going to get the care which she needs to suit.

choosing the right home
The first step is to work out what type of home is required for you or your loved one. There are several types, each providing slightly different care and support to their residents.
These include residential, nursing and dementia care homes, all of which Hometrust Care operate.
The home you choose must be able to provide the level of care and support that you or your loved one needs right now, whilst taking into consideration if their needs were to increase in the future.
If you aren’t sure what type of care your loved one needs, you can speak to any of our home managers, who are knowledgeable and friendly care experts. They’ll be able to help you understand which of our Care Homes is best suited to your loved one.
Care Needs Assessment
Care needs can also be determined through a care needs assessment, which can be booked through Gov.uk. This is a free, professional test provided by your local council that helps you work out what type of care you or your loved one needs.
The type of care you or your loved one requires will then be set out in a care plan.
To help understand the support needed, here are a few questions to ask yourself or your loved one:
choosing the right home
Finance
Everyone’s budget for care is different, so it’s important to know what’s covered - and what isn’t - for care home fees.
The cost of living in a care home includes rent, food, laundry and utility bills. There may also be additional care home costs, such as visits from medical professionals, hairdressers or chiropodists. Care costs vary greatly, depending on the level of support you or your loved one needs.
Funding may be available, so before entering a care home, a financial assessment will determine whether you’re entitled to help pay for care from your local council or local authority, depending on the value of your savings, income and assets. Funding support through the NHS is also an option, including NHS continuing healthcare and NHS-funded nursing care. Family members and friends can also help pay towards the cost of care through a top-up fee.
However, the first stage of your research is to establish what funds you are entitled to and how much you will be able to put towards your care. We always recommend that you consult external agencies for impartial advice before making a choice of home so that you are armed with as much information as possible. They can answer questions such as: Do I have to sell my home to pay for care?
As such, we would recommend:
Once you have the details of funding sources, we can provide a complete fee breakdown before you agree to move in. This will prevent any unwelcome surprises at a later date. Our fee structure is based on needs and will be tailored to match each individual resident.

Location
The next thing to consider is your preferred location. Choosing a care home in your local area will make it easier for family and friends to visit. You may also want the home to be near amenities such as shops, cafés and local towns or villages.
For people who don’t currently live near their family or friends, entering a care home provides an opportunity to move closer, so your family members and friends can more easily visit and offer additional support.
We have tastefullly decorated all our homes, in-keeping with the age of the building and recent work undertaken has included:
Please see our brochures for detailed information on location, visiting arrangements and specialist nursing care.
Please also read our FAQ’s which we hope will address some of your questions and demonstrate our open and honest approach to welcoming new residents into our homes. All our home managers are happy to answer questions and reassure anyone with an interest in residential care.
frequently asked questions
What are the priorities when choosing a care home?
We would propose that you think firstly about location, the essential facilities you’ll need and whether it provides the specialist care you require. Then think about what luxury touches you’d like. We think that we cover all the bases; essentials and extras alike.
What kind of care do I or my loved one need?
Talk with your GP about the type of care being sought. They will be best-placed to give you specifics on the specialised care required. Across our portfolio we can help with a wide range of health issues. Talk to us to see if we can meet your current needs and also if we can continue to do so if they are likely to increase in the future.
What is the ratio of staff to patients?
We have a ratio of X staff member to every X residents, which allows us to provide excellent levels of individual care and attention. We check dependency levels on a daily basis offering flexible staffing levels to accommodate specific needs at specific times.
How often can I visit my loved one at your homes?
Visiting hours are open but we do ask that visitors are responsible and that they take account of their loved one’s needs for rest and therapeutic activity. We also ask that consideration be given to other residents when visiting.
We also place protection and trust at the heart of all our interactions with friends and family. We consider our resident’s care plans to be utterly confidential and only disclose information to those it has been previously agreed can be involved. We recognise that family arrangements are emotionally charged and endeavour to accommodate all parties and deal with any complications as they arise, but the resident remains protected at all times, and we will not tolerate any interactions with our staff that could be considered bullying or discriminatory in any way. Abuse will not be tolerated, race equality is a part of our value system and whilst we deal with all complaints, this must be done properly through the correct channels. Every complaint is referred to.......

My loved one has dementia. How can I be sure I am choosing the right place for them?
When choosing a dementia care home for your loved one, it’s most important to find out how we care for and support people with dementia and we are always happy to discuss in detail. You are quite justified in knowing how many carers are trained in specialist dementia techniques and to what level and we appreciate you may wish to speak to other families with loved ones in the care home, which is an invaluable way of gathering first-hand experiences.
I have Lasting Power of Attorney. How do you deal with an LPA?
We fully appreciate the need to always include the holder of an LPA when making decisions about your relative’s care. We will keep a copy on file and refer to the LPA holder at all times, whilst always bearing in mind the need to prioritise the patient’s care.
Please see our brochures for detailed information on location and visiting arrangements. and our comprehensive Dementia Care Strategy for more information on what we can offer in terms of specialist nursing care.
